ギター名器の音色測定と分析 Measuring and Analyzing the Sounds of Legendary Guitars
手工ギター製作家として世界的に有名な櫻井正樹（桜井正毅）氏が永眠されました。
桜井正毅のギターは非の打ち所がなく、弾きやすさと素晴らしい音の響きで知られています。
ギターの名器の音色を計測して再現することの挑戦している関場教授（筑波大学）の新聞記事を読みました。（写真）
素人でも良いギターとそうでないギターの音色は判別できる場合があり、前者は演奏者を弾きたい気持ちにさせてくれます。
なぜ、弾きたくなるのか、そして、聴いている人を感動させることができるのかが分析できれば、名器の復元、再現に道が開けるのでしょう。
ちなみに、バイオリンの名器として有名なのは、ストラディバリウスとグァルネリウスと聞いています。
30年ほど前に仕事で頻繁に訪れていたフィリピンで、当時の副大統領だったラウレル氏が私邸で小さな音楽会を私のために開いて下さった時に彼が弾いていたのがストラディバリウスと聞いて驚いたことを覚えています。（写真）
Mr. Masaki Sakurai, a world-renowned handcrafted guitar maker, has passed away.
Masaki Sakurai's guitars are flawless and known for their playability and wonderful sound.
I read a newspaper article about Professor Sekiba of Tsukuba University, who is attempting to measure and reproduce the sounds of a famous guitar (see photo).
Even amateurs can distinguish between the sounds of a good and a bad guitar, and the sound of a good guitar inspires the desire to play it.
Analyzing why this occurs and how it moves listeners could open the door to restoring and reproducing legendary instruments.
As for violins, legendary instruments include Stradivarius and Guarneri models.
About 30 years ago, I was surprised to learn that the violin that the then-Vice President Laurel was playing at a small concert held in my honor at their private residence was a Stradivarius. (Photo)

太陽光自然エネルギーの効率的利活用の関する一年余りの開発研究成果の一つとして理解していただき、持続的社会構築、地球環境保全、SDGsの遂行に個人レベルで役立てば幸いです。

We produced promotional videos in 3 series for the Sunflower Power Station (SFPS), an automatic, sun-tracking, small-scale, high-efficiency solar power generation and storage system for balconies and small spaces, and released them on YouTube.
The first part this time is about how it works on a summer day with high power generation efficiency.
We hope this video content contributes to building a sustainable society, preserving the global environment, and achieving the SDGs as one for the development work on the effective usage of the natural solar energy in the past year.

参議院選挙の争点、現状への反省 Issues in the House of Councillors election, reflection on the current situation
現在日本で行われている異常に暑い灼熱の夏の参議院選挙での争点は何故か、気候変動ではありません。
日本一国だけの国内選挙だからだけでしょうか？
その理由は、立候補者のほとんどが地球温暖化、異常気象に対する具体的な対策行動を起こしていないので、心から訴える根拠、データを持っていないのです。
世界中の為政者、政治家たち、そして彼らが作る政策は常に遅く、時代遅れで後ろ向きです。
現在の経済不況や不安定さは、安部、トランプ、プーチンに代表される老（老害）政治家たちがもたらしました。（私も同世代ですが。）
しかし、彼等を選んだのは我々、そして、重症化しつつある異常気象に対して、日常生活ではほとんど対策を取っていないのも我々です。
私たちも現状に対する結果責任は重大で免れません。
これらの事実を反省すると、自ずと投票行動は決まってきます。
For some reason, climate change is not an issue in Japan's current Upper House election, despite the fact that it is being held during an unusually hot summer.
Is it because it is only a domestic election limited to Japan?
It is because most candidates lack the data and knowledge to advocate for concrete actions against global warming and extreme weather because they have not taken such measures themselves.
World leaders, politicians, and the policies they make are always slow, outdated, and backward-looking.
The current economic recession and instability have been caused by old (harmful) politicians such as Abe, Trump, and Putin. (I am of the same generation though.)
However, we elected them, and we have also taken almost no measures in our daily lives against worsening abnormal weather.
Therefore, we cannot escape our responsibility for the current consequences.
Reflecting on these facts, who we vote to becomes clear.

今年の暑さの証明(2)、温度計が証人 Proof of this year's heat: thermometers as witnesses
7月9日14時頃の温度計です。
一つはパソコン上に示される数字、もう一つは自宅の外で軒下の日陰での温度計が示す温度です。
とにかく、暑いです。
この状況が9月まで続けば、多くの分野で重大な影響を及ぼすでしょう。
地球温暖化や異常気象に対する個人や家庭の工夫も不可欠です。
These are thermometer readings taken around 2:00 p.m. on July 9.
One shows the number displayed on the computer and the other shows the temperature displayed by the thermometer under the eaves outside my house.
In any case, it is hot.
If this condition continues until September, it will have a significant impact in many fields.
Individual and household efforts to address global warming and abnormal weather are also essential.

2紙で新聞紹介いただきました。 Two Newspaper Coverage
2022年のノーベル生理学・医学賞を受賞したスバンテ・ペーボ博士が6月20日（金）に広島県の日彰館高校で行いました彼の研究内容、成果に関する講義（講演）が7月4日に中国新聞、7月8日に尾道新聞でそれぞれ新聞紹介されました。
この関連内容は先月6月21日と25日の2回投稿しました。
先日、記述した通り、突然、前日に通訳依頼されて臨みましたので、博士の講演内容を当日直接、注意深く見聞きしながらのぶっつけ本番の作業でした。
順序が逆になりましたが、現在、博士の研究に関する著書を熟読中です。難解ですので読み終えるのに時間がかかり、内容をより良く理解するには数回読み直す必要があります。
On Friday, June 20, Dr. Svante Pääbo, winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, gave a lecture on his research and achievements at Nisshōkan High School in Hiroshima Prefecture.
The lecture was featured in the different 2 newspapers, the July 4 newspaper by the Chugoku and the July 8 newspaper by the Onomichi respectively.
I posted about this topic twice last month, on June 21 and 25.
As I mentioned the other day, I was suddenly asked to provide interpretation the day before, so I carefully listened to and observed the doctor's lecture that day.
I am currently reading the doctor's book on his research, although the order is reversed. It is quite challenging, so it will take time to finish, and I will need to read it several times to better understand it.

花 束 Flower Bouquet
一昨日7月6日、久しぶりに思いがけなくきれいな花束をいただきました。
依頼されていた質問＆応答式トークとギター演奏にお応えしたご褒美（？）でした。
トークは6月の2022年のノーベル医学・生理学賞受賞者のペーボ博士との遭遇と通訳作業のいきさつから始まりました。
私の20歳代から70歳代までの10年おきの仕事内容をプロジェクターで簡単に短く紹介し、その後は大半の時間を参加者の方々に質問していただき、それに答えるという形で進みました。
若い参加者を含め積極的に非常に良い多くの質問をいただき、与えられた時間を有効に使うことができました。
最後にクラシックギター曲の「禁じられた遊び」と「アルハンブラの思い出」演奏で会を閉じました。
会を企画、主催いただきました関係者の皆さんに感謝しています。
今後も元気に仕事、趣味、他を含めた生活を楽しみます。
Two days ago, on July 6, I unexpectedly received a beautiful flower bouquet for the first time in a long time.
It was a reward (?) for responding to a request to give my Q & A style talk and to perform guitar pieces.
I began my talk with recounting my encounter with Dr. Svante Pääbo, who won the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, and the interpretation work for him in June.
I then briefly introduced my work over the past 50 years, from my 20s to my 70s, using a projector. For much of the time afterwards, the participants asked me questions, to which I responded.
I received many good questions, including from younger participants, and I made effective use of the allotted time.
The event concluded with my performance of the two classical guitar pieces "Forbidden Play" and "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" before the end of the meeting.
I would like to express my gratitude to all the organizers of the event.
I will continue to enjoy my life of work, hobbies, and others with good health.

パワーアップ、400W ⇒ 600Wひまわり発電所 Power up from 400W to 600W with the Sunflower Power Station
梅雨明け後、晴天が続き、太陽光発電には基本的には好都合ですが、パネル温度が50度℃以上に上昇し、発電効率は低下します。
「ひまわり発電所」（SFPS、自動太陽追尾式の小型高効率太陽光発電・蓄電システム（写真、ベランダ・狭地用、見学・コピー自由）はこれまでは400Wの発電パネルを使用、試験してきましたが、7月から600Wに格上げしました、（と言っても、通常の屋根据え置き型の8分の一のサイズですが）。
600Wパネルの内、400Wパネルは主に昼間のエアコン用に、200Wパネルは電灯、テレビ、パソコンなどの家電製品用に電気を供給します。
発電した電気の内、万が一の夜中の停電用に約300Wを蓄電池に残し、発電した電気は地産地消として毎日、使い切ります。
なお、先日、このシステムをある会社の社長さんにも見学いただき、意見を交わしました。
After the rainy season ends and sunny weather continues, this is generally favorable for solar power generation. However, panel temperatures can rise above 50°C, which decreases power generation efficiency.
The 'Sunflower Power Station' (SFPS), an automated sun-tracking, small-scale, high-efficiency solar power generation and storage system for photo, balcony and narrow space use (free to view and copy), has previously employed 400W panels for testing and actual usage. However, starting in July, we upgraded them to 600W panels, (though it is only one-eighth the size of a regular roof-mounted system), the 400 W panels of which primarily supply electricity for daytime air conditioning, while the 200 W panels provide power for appliances such as lights, televisions and computers.
Approximately 300 W of the generated electricity is stored in the battery for emergency use during night-time power outages just in case and all the remaining electricity is consumed daily as part of a local production-for-local consumption model.
Additionally, recently, the president of a certain company visited me to inspect the system and we exchanged opinions with each other.

新例会場所、尾道無料英会話道場 New meeting place for Onomichi Free English Conversation Dojo
今年で45年目の無料相互実用英語学習及び情報交換のための例会です。
コロナ禍以降、対面での例会を完全にオンライン例会に切り替えていましたが、この度、6月度から公民館の一室を借りて2ヶ月に一度のペースで午前例会を対面例会にすることになりました。
尾道、三原、福山、世羅以外の国内遠方や海外からの参加者もありますので、オンラインを同時併用したハイブリッド式の例会になります。
新しい場所での初回（6月26日）はオンライン参加者が1名、対面参加者が7名、欠席2名でのスタートになりました。
It is the 45th year of our free mutual practical English learning and information exchange meetings.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have completely switched from face-to-face meetings to online meetings, but starting in June, we use a community center room and hold face-to-face meetings once every two months in the morning.
Since participants come from Onomichi, Mihara, Fukuyama Sera, and far-flung parts of Japan and abroad including Onomichi, Mihara, Fukuyama and Sera, the meetings will be hybrid, combining online and in-person formats.
The first meeting at the new venue on June 26 had one online participant, seven in-person participants, and two absences.

日本の戦後処理 Postwar Settlement in Japan
NHKの朝ドラ「あんぱん」を見ています。
今回のドラマでも第二次世界大戦のシーンが一週間以上続き、当時の悲しい、耐えがたい事実が再現されました。
この種のシーンを見るたびに、日本政府の戦後処理のいいかげんさを再認識し、怒りがこみ上げてきます。
身近に戦死者、未亡人、親を亡くした孤児、原爆被爆などを見てきた私にはA級戦犯、A級戦犯と関係のある政治家たちのその後の振る舞い、そして歴代の首相たちの在職年数に応じた無責任の大きさを忘れることはできません。特に、モリ・カケ・サクラ・ウラガネの元A首相のいいかげんさは忘れることはできません。
これが選挙での私の投票行動に影響することは当然です。
I have been watching NHK's morning drama series, Anpan.
This drama series featured scenes from World War II that continued for more than a week, recreating the sad and unbearable realities of that time.
Whenever I see scenes like these, I am reminded of the Japanese government's carelessness in the post-war settlement and I feel a surge of anger.
Having witnessed war victims killed, widows, orphaned children and atomic bomb survivors, I cannot forget the irresponsible behaviors of Class A war criminals and the politicians associated with Class A war criminals, nor the extent of the successive prime ministers' irresponsibility. In particular, I cannot forget the former prime minister A's involvement in the Mori, Kake, Sakura and Uragane scandals.
This naturally influences my voting behavior in elections.

トークとギター Talk and Guitar
「今を楽しもう会」の主催の会での私のトークとギター演奏が向島で10日後（7月6日（日）になりました。
私の希望で、私が決めたテーマや内容を一方的にお話しするのではなく、会の関係者の方々の質問に答えるという形になりました。どんな質問が出るかは不明です。答えに窮して立ち往生するかもしれませんが、私が提案したスタイルです。
最後にギター演奏を依頼されていますので、数曲を準備しています。
果たしてどうなることやら？

I have also been asked to perform a few pieces on the guitar at the end, so I am preparing some songs.
I wonder how it will turn out!

世界一の授業 The World's Best Lecture
2022年のノーベル生理学・医学賞を受賞したスバンテ・ペーボ博士が広島県の日彰館高校で彼の研究内容、成果に関する講義（講演）を6月20日（金）、離日前に、行いました。
ご縁をいただき、光栄にも、私がその通訳を勤めさせていただきました。
これまでの通訳経験上、もっともハードな通訳の一つで、自身の未熟さを感じました。
博士が日本で高校生を対象に講義したのは日彰館高校が最初です。
この世界一の授業を受けることができた生徒は大変幸運でしたが、最も幸運だったのは私自身です。
今回の講義を快諾いただいた博士、そして、このようなご縁をいただきました西光禅寺の檀上和尚さんに感謝しています。
On Friday, June 20, Dr. Svante Pääbo, winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, gave a lecture on his research and achievements at Nisshōkan High School in Hiroshima Prefecture before leaving Japan.
I was honored to serve as the interpreter for this event.
Based on my previous interpreting experience, this was one of my most challenging assignments, and I recognized my inexperience.
It was Dr. Svante Pääbo's first lecture to Japanese high school students, and Nisshōkan High School was the first to host it.
The students who attended this world-class lecture were very fortunate, but I consider myself the luckiest.
I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Pääbo for giving this lecture and to the head priest of Saikō Zen Temple for making it possible.

大木支柱の簡易駐車場 Simple parking lot with large tree pillars
先日、家の近くの大木の一つの幹を高さ4メートあたりから切り倒しました。
その幹にワイヤを掛け、駐車場の長方形の屋根の3辺、4ヵ所を吊り、更に防水テントを張り、写真のような駐車場を作りました。
自然木に合わせて、テント屋根の色は濃い緑色にしました。
屋根全体は木に固定した単管を支点として回転し、道上側の長辺を上下に動かすことができます。
I recently cut down one of the big trees near our house at a height of about four meters.
I hung wires from the trunk and suspended three sides of the rectangular parking lot roof at four places, then stretched a waterproof tent over it.
We chose a dark green color for the tent roof to match the natural wood.
The entire roof rotates around a single pipe fixed to a large tree. The side over the road can be moved up and down.
