蓄電容量を拡大、ほぼ一日中給電：

私たちの家庭用発電システム「ひまわり発電所」（写真）は、自家発電で家庭の電力需要の一部を賄うシステムです。ベランダ、バルコニー設置でメンテナンスが容易で、屋根へのダメージがありません。

発電容量600W、蓄電容量1,600Wの小型で、自作できる太陽光自動追尾式の発電・蓄電システムですが、ぜひお気軽にご覧ください。

天候と気温に恵まれたこの季節、最も多くの電力を発電しています。

そして、晴天の日には、発電量が蓄電池の容量を上回ってしまいます。

結果として、この余剰電力をすべて蓄えることはできないため、資源の非効率な利用という形で無駄が生じてしまいます。

（日本の現行のFIT（固定価格買取制度）では、余剰電力を電力会社に売電しても経済的なメリットはありません。そのため、私の基本方針は、売電するのではなく、自家消費を100％行うことです。）

そこで、発電した電力を効果的に蓄える対策として、蓄電池システムの容量を2,600Wほぼ倍増させました。

これで、この時期の晴天日には我が家ではこのシステムで24時間の給電が可能となりました（IHクッキングヒーターや電気温水器を除く）。

当然ながら、蓄電池システムの拡張にはコストがかかりますが、これは将来の電気料金値上げに備え、地球環境保全にも貢献できる、個人でも取り組める方法です。

Expanded storage capacity, providing power for nearly the entire day:

Our home power generation system, “Sunflower Power Station” (pictured), is designed to meet a portion of a household's electricity needs through DIY self-generation (a compact, auto-tracking solar power and storage system with a generation capacity of 600W and a storage capacity of 1,600W. Please feel free to take a look).

It can be installed on a veranda or balcony, making maintenance easy and causing no damage to the roof.

During this season, which is blessed with favorable weather and temperatures, it is currently generating the most electricity.

And, on sunny days, the amount of power generated exceeds the capacity of the storage batteries. Since we cannot store all the surplus power, this results in waste in the form of inefficient resource utilization.

(Under Japan’s current FIT (Feed-in Tariff) system, selling surplus power to the utility company offers no economic benefit. Therefore, my basic policy is to consume 100% of the power ourselves rather than selling it.)

As a measure to effectively store the electricity generated, I have nearly doubled the capacity of my battery storage system (2,600W).

As a result, on sunny days during this season, our home is now able to receive a 24-hour power supply from this home system (excluding induction cooktops and electric water heaters).

Naturally, expanding the battery storage system involves costs, but this is an initiative that individuals can undertake to prepare for future electricity rate hikes and contribute to global environmental conservation.

先週、4日間、市民病院で非日常を過ごしました。（手術入院は初めてではありませんが。）

入院中、医師、看護師、スタッフの皆さんのおかげで、順調に退院日の22日を迎えました。

時間がありましたのでベッドの上では、これまでにユーチューブにアップしている私自身の楽曲を聴いて、演奏の反省もしました。

そこで、世話していただきました病院の方々の印象を、これまでに演奏した以下の2曲に重ね合わせました。

Unusual Experience:

Last week, I spent four days at the municipal hospital, experiencing something out of the ordinary. (This isn’t my first time being hospitalized for surgery, though.)

Thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staffs, my recovery went smoothly, and I was discharged on the 22nd.

Since I had some free time, I lay on the bed listening to my own music plays that I’ve uploaded to YouTube and reflected on my performances.

Then I superimposed my impressions of the hospital staffs who cared for me onto the following two music pieces I had performed in the past.

Whenever I perform these pieces in the future, I will think of the hospital staffs and play with gratitude for my improved quality of life and health.

8GBのRAMを搭載したノートパソコンを約6年間使ってきたのですが、だんだん使い勝手が悪くなってきたので、16GBのRAMを搭載した新しいLaVieのノートパソコンと27インチのモニターを注文しました。

ゲームや動画には使用しませんので、しばらくは16GBのRAMの機種で我慢です。

諸物価が高騰している中、時代の流れについていくのは大変です。

Upgrading My Computer:

I’ve been using a laptop with 8GB of RAM for about six years, but it’s gradually become less responsive, so I ordered a new LaVie laptop with 16GB of RAM and a 27-inch monitor.

Since I don’t use it for gaming or watching videos, I’m settling for a model with 16GB of RAM for some time to come.

With prices skyrocketing across the board, it’s tough to keep up with the times.

今回は尾道市因島の代表的な風景の一つ、重井西港斜面の除虫菊畑と瀬戸内海です。

除虫菊は明治時代に日本に輸入、瀬戸内海の島々で生産が奨励され、香取線香の原料として重要な輸出製品となりました。

著作権フリーの尾道の写真を尾道観光協会サイトの無料写真素材「おのみちや」から選択してシリーズでご紹介します。

また、このシリーズで紹介する絵は尾道在住で多くの尾道の絵を描いてきた川辺和洋氏の作品で、同氏の許可を得てシリーズでご紹介します。

Once upon a time in & around Onomichi (79), Paintings and pictures of Onomichi (22):

This time, we feature one of Innoshima’s most iconic landscapes in Onomichi City: the pyrethrum fields on the slopes of Shigei West Port and the Seto Inland Sea.

Pyrethrum was introduced to Japan during the Meiji era, and its cultivation was encouraged on the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, where it became an important export commodity used as a raw material for Katori incense.

The copyright-free images of Onomichi are selected from the Onomichi Tourist Association website's free photo resource 'Onomichiya' and featured in the series.

In addition, the works of Kazuhiro Kawabe, who lives in Onomichi and has painted many pictures of Onomichi, are presented in this series with his permission.

一昨日の英検１級（＆同等）資格者ネットワーク in 日本の月例会でのテーマでした。

日進月歩のAIですが、意識の有無にかかわらず、私たちは日常生活の中で関わっています。

問題点も指摘されていますが、その問題を引き起こすのは使い手である人間です。

翻訳や通訳でのAIの利活用も著しいようですが、このために、英語学習が無意味である、ということは決してありません。

AIが行う通訳や翻訳が本当に正しいかどうか判断し、人間による通訳や翻訳と比較する場合、人間の持つ英語力が不可欠だからです。

以下は、AI翻訳が文学作品でも人間翻訳に近づいている例です。

川端康成の「雪国」の冒頭「国境の長いトンネルを抜けると雪国であった。」のこれまでの代表的な英訳は「The train came out of the long tunnel into the snow country.」です。（朝日新聞、2026年3月11日、外国語の扉）

これを最近のアプリでAI翻訳すると「As we emerged from the long tunnel at the border, we found ourselves in a snowy landscape.」となり、AI翻訳の方がずっと優れています。（訂正が必要であるとしても、私はそう思います。）

The Use of AI in English Language Learning:

This was the topic of discussion at the monthly meeting of the Eiken Grade 1 (& Equivalent) Certificate Holders Network in Japan held the day before yesterday.

AI is advancing by leaps and bounds, and whether we realize it or not, we interact with it in our daily lives.

While some issues have been pointed out, it is the users—humans—who cause those problems.

While the use of AI in translation and interpretation appears to be growing significantly, this never means that learning English is meaningless.

This is because human English proficiency is essential for judging whether AI-generated translations or interpretations are truly accurate, or for comparing them to those produced by humans.

The following is an example of how AI translation is approaching the quality of human translation, even in literary works.

The opening line of Yasunari Kawabata’s *Snow Country*—“When we emerged from the long tunnel at the border, we found ourselves in a snowy landscape”—has traditionally been translated as “The train came out of the long tunnel into the snow country.”（Asahi Shimbun, March 11, 2026, “Gateway to Foreign Languages”)

When translated using a recent AI app, it becomes “As we emerged from the long tunnel at the border, we found ourselves in a snowy landscape,” and the AI translation is far superior. (Even if corrections are needed, this is my opinion.)

尾道では今年の連休後半は天候に恵まれました。

3月中旬の巣作り（約20日）から産卵、抱卵（約20日）、ヒナ誕生、子育て（約20日）を経て庭のシジュウカラ9匹全てが5月3日に元気に巣立ちました。

この連休の時期、家の周りの生垣の剪定を行います。今年はツツジの開花が早く、ほとんどの花が枯れた4日から作業を開始しました。

5日は午前中、地域の子供神輿の掛け声を聴きながらが、正午前から、毎年恒例ですが、近くの鳴滝山国立公園へ。

駐車場に駐車して、緩やかで短く、よく整備された山の北側の遊歩道を15分ほどトレッキング。遊歩道が南側に出たところで、眼下に見える青い海に浮かぶ瀬戸内の島々と遥か遠方にかすかに見える四国山脈を見ながら30分ほど昼食。その後、15分ほど右手に瀬戸内海を見ながら平らな遊歩道のトレッキングで展望台へ。更に、平らな山道を右手に瀬戸内海を見ながら15分ほどで駐車場へ。

全行程は昼食時間を含めて遊歩道一周には2時間もあれば十分です。

春の連休のこの時期、コース全体で聞こえる春ゼミ、ウグイス、メジロなどの歌声が心地よいです。

逆コースでは左手に瀬戸内海を見ながら先ず山頂へ。山頂から山の北側の遊歩道で駐車場に戻ることができます。

2026 Golden Week Holiday:

In Onomichi, we were blessed with good weather during the latter half of this year’s holiday period.

Following nest-building in mid-March (about 20 days), egg-laying, incubation (about 20 days), the hatching of the chicks, and rearing (about 20 days), all the 9 great tits in my garden successfully fledged on May 3.

During this holiday period, I prune the hedges in front of the house. This year, the azaleas bloomed earlier, so I started work on the 4th, after most of the flowers had already past their best.

On the morning of the 5th, we heard the chants of the local children’s mikoshi (Portable Shrine) procession, then headed to the nearby Narutakiyama National Park—a yearly tradition—just before noon.

We parked in the lot and hiked for about 15 minutes along the gentle, short, and well-maintained trail on the north side of the mountain. When the trail emerged on the south side, we had lunch for about 30 minutes while looking down at the islands of the Seto Inland Sea floating on the blue sea below and gazing at the Shikoku Mountain Range faintly visible in the distance. Afterward, we trekked for about 15 minutes along a flat trail with the Seto Inland Sea on our right to reach the observation deck. Then, we walked another 15 minutes along a flat mountain path with the Seto Inland Sea on our right to return to the parking lot.

The entire loop, including lunch, takes no more than two hours.

During the spring holidays, the sounds of spring cicadas, Japanese bush warblers, and white-eyes singing throughout the course are truly delightful.

If you take the reverse route, you’ll head to the summit first while looking out at the Seto Inland Sea on your left. From the summit, you can return to the parking lot via the walking trail on the north side of the mountain.

これまでに仕事や旅行で海外の17か国に行く機会がありました。

何度も足を運んだ国としてはアメリカ、中国がありますが、トランプの大統領就任前、習近平の主席就任前でした。

現在、これらの国及びプーチンのロシアに行く気持ちにはなれません。

その理由の第一は、これらの国のリーダーたちの言動で、ローマ教皇も彼らを暴君と呼んでいます。

第二の理由は円安による旅行費用の高騰ですが、高市現政権は安倍政権同様に輸出企業厚遇政策で円安容認です。

第三が体力の減少です。

Countries I have visited multiple times include the United States and China, though these trips occurred before President Trump and President Xi Jinping took office.

At present, I have no desire to visit these countries and Putin’s Russia.

The primary reason for this is the words and actions of these countries’ leaders; even the Pope has called them tyrants.

The second reason is the surge in travel costs due to the weak yen, but the current Takaichi administration, like the Abe administration, tolerates the weak yen through policies that favor export-oriented companies.

The third reason is my declining physical stamina.

今年で連続4年、5回目の我家の庭での小さな生命の誕生光景ですが、いつも大きな感動を覚えます。

暴君政治家が引き起こした戦争での大量殺人、京都での事件など殺伐とした昨今、身近な小さな小鳥たちの懸命な姿に考えさせられます。

On April 16, the chicks were born healthy and lively in the nest box perched on a dogwood tree in full bloom.

This marks about one month since they began building the nest and approximately 10 days after they started incubating the eggs.

This marks the fifth time in four (4) consecutive years that we have witnessed the birth of new lives in our garden, and it never fails to move me deeply.

In these violent times—marked by mass killings in wars instigated by tyrannical politicians and incidents like the one in Kyoto—the determined efforts of these small birds right here in my own backyard give me much to reflect on.

先月まで何十年も散髪はテナント入居いただいていた理髪店でしてもらっていました。

その散髪店が閉店しました（＊）ので、これからの散髪をどこでしてもらうか思案していましたが、これを機会に自分で散髪することにしました。

そのための散髪器具（写真）を購入して、これまでに月2回、生まれて初めて自分で散髪を行いました。

案外簡単でした。時間的にも10分もあれば十分でした。慣れれば、もっと上手になるでしょう。

散髪店に行って、待つ時間も必要ありませんし、いつでも散髪できます。

Until last month, I had been getting my hair cut at a barbershop, which was one of the tenants in our building for rent for decades.

Since that barbershop closed (*), I was wondering where to get my hair cut from now on, but I decided to take this opportunity to cut my own hair.

I bought the necessary tools (pictured) and have cut my own hair twice in a month now for the first time in my life.

It was surprisingly easy. It only took about 10 minutes. Once I get the hang of it, I’m sure I’ll get even better.

I don’t have to go to a barbershop or wait for an appointment; I can cut my hair whenever I want to.

2月にイスラエルとアメリカのイラクへの戦争開始でホルムズ海峡が封鎖状態になりました。

日本は石油やLNGは代替輸入によって来年の1月まではこれまでと同じように生活しても構わない、と政府が発表しました。しかし、東南アジアの国々では非常事態を宣言している国もあります。

緊急時でも平時の生活、活動ができるという安心、安心感を与えることは政府の大きな役割でしょうが、経済界の多くは、節約、省エネの必要性を唱えています。

アベノミクスを掲げた安部同様に高市やトランプは、経済さえ表面的に活性化すれば良いとの考えです。

しかし、そのような慢心した考えが、非常時には後悔の原因になります。たとえ、平和な平時であっても節約、省エネは常に心がけなければいけない基本的な考えだと私は思います。

日本の失われた30年を演出、代表したアベノミクスのような失態はもう御免です。

In February, the Strait of Hormuz was effectively blockaded following the start of the war in Iraq by Israel and the United States.

The Japanese government announced that, thanks to alternative imports of oil and LNG, people could continue living as usual until January of next year. However, some countries in Southeast Asia have declared a state of emergency.

While it is certainly a major role of the government to provide reassurance that people can maintain their normal lives and activities even during emergencies, many in the business community are advocating for the necessity of saving and conserving energy.

Like Abe, who championed “Abenomics,” Takaishi and Trump hold the view that as long as the economy is revitalized on the surface, everything will be fine.

However, such complacent thinking can lead to regret in times of crisis. I believe that saving and conserving energy are fundamental principles we must always keep in mind, even during peaceful times.

We’ve had enough of blunders like Abenomics, which orchestrated and epitomized Japan’s “Lost 30 Years.”

The attached video shows the nest of a pair of Great Tits that began nest-building on March 15, as of April 8^th.

The female Great Tit, having finished laying her eggs, has been sleeping and incubating them in the nest since the evening. During the day, she occasionally leaves the nest for a few minutes to eat out, though the male Great Tit sometimes brings food to her as well.

It has been more than one month since the attack on Iran launched by the evil duo of Netanyahu and Trump.

The entire world is caught up in the rampant inflation and chaos brought about by this war, leaving everyone to be in big trouble.

Trump provoked Iran to block the Strait of Hormuz, and once the situation spirals out of control, he forces the countries involved to resolve it on their own. On top of that, he shifts his stance almost daily while shifting the blame onto other nations. Trump is truly selfish—like a badly behaved brat who has never been properly disciplined.

Just as with Putin’s attack on Ukraine, I cannot understand the persons that would side with this foolish tyrant who launched attacks for purely selfish reasons.

How many people around the world are hoping to see these three major war criminals of the 21st century brought to justice?

The attached photo shows a nest box I installed on the dogwood tree in our yard, depicting the nest built by a pair of great tits that began nesting on March 15 and 16. Within a week, the 20-centimeter-square nest box was lined with about 5 centimeters of moss, and within two weeks, the area where the eggs will be laid was lined with feathers and animal hair arranged in a circular pattern.

Egg-laying may begin soon.

今日27日（金）で50年以上聴き親しんだNHKラジオの第二放送チャンネルの英語語学放送が終わりました。

Today, Friday the 27th, marked the end of the English language programs on NHK Radio’s Channel 2, which I’ve enjoyed listening to for over 50 years. Starting next week, these programs are moved to the FM channel, but I continue to listen them. The reason is that no matter how many years I listen to them, I discover something new every morning. 3月15日、16日に巣作りを開始したシジュウカラの巣の様子ですが、一週間で20センチ四方の巣箱の中は約5センチ高の木苔が敷き詰められ、産卵する場所には羽毛や動物の毛を円状に敷き詰めました。

毎日、シジュウカラノペアが何十回も運び込んだ結果です。

もう少し羽毛を敷き詰めたら、来週くらいには産卵が始まるでしょう。

この一週間の間に、ペアの間で餌のプレゼント、羽を震わして「お先にどうぞ」をする様子、そして、別のシジュウカラの巣箱侵入と格闘、ペアのシジュウカラと他の1羽との巣箱の外での格闘などの様子も観察できました。

巣箱は3メートル先のハナミズキの木にあり、私は机についている間、窓を通して、そして巣箱内部に臨時に設置したカメラで観察しています。

Here is an update on the nest of the great tits that began building on March 15 and 16. Over the course of a week, they have lined the 20-centimeter-square nest box with about 5 centimeters of moss and arranged feathers and animal hair in a circular pattern where they will have their eggs.

This is the result of the great tit pair making dozens of trips every day.

Egg-laying will likely begin around next week after a little more feathers arranged.

Over the past week, I also observed the male bird giving food to the female bird, shaking their wings to signal “you first,” when entering the nest box as well as scuffles with another great tit that invaded the nest box, and a fight between the pair and a single other great tit outside the nest box.

The nest box is located on a dogwood tree about 3 meters away from us. While I’m at my desk, I can observe them through the window and via a camera I’ve temporarily set up inside the nest box.

入社後の1970年前後の数年間、東洋紡株式会社・高槻研究所での勤務時代、音楽愛好家仲間と演奏を楽しんでいました。

During my years working at Toyobo Co., Ltd.'s Takatsuki Research Laboratory around 1970 after joining the company, I enjoyed playing music with fellow music enthusiasts.

They had recorded our performances back then. When I left the company, I was gifted 15 tracks. A friend of mine kindly digitized them and I uploaded two of those pieces to YouTube last December. Then, a former colleague I hadn't heard from in ages reached out to me through the music channel.

TACOは、「Trump Always Chickens Out」（トランプはいつも尻込みして退く）の4語の頭文字をとったもので、最近、知った短縮表現です。

『フィナンシャル・タイムズ』のコラムニストであるロバート・アームストロングによる造語で、ドナルド・トランプ大統領が他国に関税を課すと脅しながら、市場が混乱するとすぐに引き下げるということを、皮肉を込めて言ったもの。 ウォール街のトレーダーの間で広まっており、「TACO理論」とも言われている。

一方、日本語の「タコ」には俗語として「ばか、間抜け、下手くそ」の蔑称（このタコ！）の意味がある。

大統領のこのTACO言動は毎日のことのようで、つい最近ではNATOのイギリス兵への侮辱発言と事実上の撤回があります。（相変わらず、直接、間違いを認めることは決してしないようですね。）

TACO Trump:

TACO is an acronym for “Trump Always Chickens Out.”, which I have learned recently.

It is a term coined by Robert Armstrong, a columnist for the Financial Times, to sarcastically describe how President Donald Trump threatens to impose tariffs on other countries but quickly backs down when the markets become turbulent. It has spread among Wall Street traders and is also known as the “TACO theory.”

On the other hand, the Japanese word “taco” is slang for “idiot, fool, or incompetent person” (this taco!).

The president's TACO behaviors seem to be an everyday occurrence, with the most recent example being his insulting remarks toward British soldiers in NATO and his de facto retraction. (As always, he never directly admits his mistakes, does he?)

I have been translating my acquaintance's book (Danjo, in Japanese, picture, available for purchase on Amazon) into English, whose deadline is the end of March.

I plan to translate three books this year including this book.

Translating a book requires the following steps:

1. Read the book several times to deepen my understanding.

2. Extract specialized terms and proper nouns from the book, creating a list of their corresponding accurate pronunciations and precise translations.

3. Translate the entire book.

4. Reread the translated book.

5. Post-edit the translated book, checking for grammatical errors and vocabulary

6. Conduct a native check as the final post-editing step to ensure natural sentences.

Thankfully, we have now progressed to stage 6.

これだけ、50年も長く続けた理由は、役人にとってはおいしく使いやすい税金だったからでしょう。

次は、各家庭から毎月約千円、毎年1万円以上も吸い上げている再エネ賦課金を即刻、廃止すべきです。

政府は大規模太陽光発電のデメリットや間違いに気づき、その補助金をストップするのですから。

Abolishing the Temporary Gasoline Tax and the Renewable Energy Levy:

After a long 50-year provisional period, the temporary gasoline tax has finally been abolished.

The reason it lasted so long as 50 years is likely because it was a lucrative and convenient tax for bureaucrats.

Next, the renewable energy levy, which siphons roughly 1,000 yen monthly and over 10,000 yen annually from each household, should be abolished immediately, since The Government recognize the drawbacks and flaws of large-scale solar power generation and intend to halt these subsidies.

One political party has pledged to abolish these subsidies in the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for next month.

2014年に創設した「英検１級（＆同等）資格者ネットワーク(E1N) in 日本」は今年、12年目で、登録メンバー数は、昨年2025年度末で167名です。

ネットワークでは毎月第二土曜日夕方8時からオンライン月例会を開催して色々な情報交換しています。今年の第一回月例会は1月10日でした。

例会参加者のそれぞれに今年の目標を述べてもらったところ、昨年、全国通訳案内士試験に合格し、今年はアメリカの公認会計士資格の取得を目標にしている人がいました。

その発言を受けて、すでにその資格に挑戦した人、すでにアメリカの税理士資格を持っている人がこのネットワークに複数いることが判明し、新しい情報交換の輪ができました。

なお、2月、3月の例会では通訳として世界一周の船に乗り、帰国したメンバーからの報告をしていただくことになっています。

私も毎回、良い刺激をいただきながら大変楽しみにしています。

The “Eiken Grade 1 (& Equivalent) Qualification Network (E1N) in Japan,” established in 2014, is now in its 12th year. As of the end of fiscal year 2025, the number of registered members stands at 167.

The network holds monthly online meetings on the second Saturdays of each month at 8:00 PM for various information exchanges. This year's first monthly meeting was on January 10th.

When each participant shared their goals for this year, one person mentioned passing the National Tour Guide Examination last year and aiming to obtain the U.S. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification this year.

Following this comment, it became clear that several members of this network have already attempted that qualification or already hold U.S. tax accountant qualifications, creating a new circle for information exchange.

For the February and March meetings, we have scheduled reports from one of our members who worked as an interpreter aboard a world cruise ship and has now returned.

I also look forward to it immensely each time, finding it a great source of inspiration.

OFFICE KTK began as an English language juku (cram) school in 1977 and has since focused on English language & conversation learning support, translation, interpretation, and international business support and so on.

This year, 2026, I am starting work on translating Japanese books into English and commercially publishing my own works (in Japanese and English).

We are now also engaged in developing highly efficient solar power generation systems.

周知のとおり、新年早々、アメリカのベネズエラへの軍事攻撃のニュースが飛び込んできました。その後、トランプは好き勝手なことを吹聴しています。

ロシアのウクライナ軍事侵攻は4年目で、多数の自国兵士を平気で戦死させ、占領欲だけで攻撃をエスカレートさせています。

中国は台湾や東南アジア諸国への軍事的示威行動などを続けています。

世界を不安、混乱させているのがこれらの国々であることが益々鮮明になっています。

この3か国が国連を機能不全にしていることも明らかです。新しい国連にはこのままのこの3か国は不要です。

軍事行動、示威行動を決定している横暴なリーダーを選んだのはこれらの国の国民です。

これらの3か国は多数の核兵器を所有し、お互いに右手で握手しながら左手で銃を構えている間柄ですから、何が起きるかはわかりませんが、良いことには起きないでしょう。決して見聞きしたくはありませんが。

私たちが日本でできることはこのようなリーダーを日本では決して選ばない選挙時の行動、平和で平穏で、地球全体の環境を悪化させない日常生活を行うことでしょう。

As is widely known, the news broke early in the new year that U.S. forces had attacked Venezuela. Since then, Trump has been spouting whatever nonsense he pleases.

Russia's military invasion of Ukraine has entered its fourth year. Despite suffering heavy casualties among its own forces, Moscow continues to escalate its attacks without hesitation, driven solely by its desire for occupation.

China continues its military demonstrations targeting Taiwan and Southeast Asian nations.

It's very clear that these three countries are causing the UN to become dysfunctional. The new UN does not need these three countries as they are now.

It is the citizens of these countries who elected the authoritarian leaders who decide on such military actions and demonstrations.

These three nations, all of which have many nuclear weapons, are in a relationship where they shake hands with their right hands while holding guns in their left hands. So, while it's impossible to predict what might happen, it certainly won't be anything good. I certainly don't want to see or hear about it.

What we can do in Japan is to act during elections to ensure such leaders are never chosen here, and to live our daily lives peacefully and calmly, avoiding actions that worsen the global environment.

今年2026年の弾き初めは、1月5日の「いのちの歌」と「アルハンブラの思い出」でした。

“いのちの歌”は、18年前の2008年にNHK連続テレビ小説「だんだん」の劇中歌として発表され、双子の茉奈・佳奈（まな・かな）さんが歌った曲です。今月のシニアの集いで、参加者の皆さんに歌っていただきながら演奏します。

「アルハンブラの思い出」はクラシックギター曲で、何十年も練習していますが、満足できない曲です。

My first guitar plays of this year, 2026, were on January 5th with “Song of Life” and “Recuerdos de la Alhambra.”

“Song of Life” was released 18 years ago in 2008 as a theme song for the NHK morning drama series “Dandan,” sung by the twin sisters Mana and Kana. At this month's senior gathering, I'll perform this while the participants sing along.

“Recuerdos de la Alhambra” is a classical guitar piece I've practiced for decades but never feel satisfied with.

今年も優先順に健康、趣味、情報交換、ボランティア、仕事の5分野で生活します。

仕事としては、今年は先ず、「節電虫」開発物語の商業出版への挑戦からスタートします。

年末に出版社4社に企画書と必要な情報を提出し応募しました。持ち込み原稿の商業出版への検討への最初の返事は数ヶ月後というのが普通です。無視されることもあります。

この内の一社からはすでに一回目の返事連絡をいただき、要求された必要限度の原稿資料（日本語、英語）を提出し、前向きに検討いただいています。

商業出版は素人には非常にハードルが高いですが、ハードルは高いほど挑戦する価値があります。自費出版は考えていません。商業出版が不可能な場合は自社HPでのインターネット出版とします。

This year too, I will live my life in five areas of health, hobbies, information exchange, volunteering as they are prioritized.

For work, this year I'll start with challenge on the commercial publishing of the Story of Developing “Setsuden-mush”

At the end of the year, I submitted proposals and necessary information to four publishers. The initial response regarding consideration of a submitted manuscript for commercial publication usually takes a few months. Sometimes they ignore them.

One of these companies has already responded me, and I have submitted the minimum volume of the required manuscript (in PDF,), which they are currently considering positively.

当英会話道場では、月4回（木曜午前2回・土曜夜2回）にわたり、対面またはオンラインで会員が集い、各自で培った会話スキルを磨きます。

各回異なるテーマを設定し、日本語を使わずに意見を交換することで実践的な語学力を高めます。

今年2026年で尾道無料英会話道場は46年目ですが、この間、英語学習、英会話練習方法も変遷してきました。

最近ではAIの発達により、添付写真のChatGPTやGeminiなどを活用すれば、個人が好きなテーマで、まるで個人レッスンのように、いつでもどこでも無料で自由な英会話の練習ができます。

練習日や時間などの管理は自身で行う必要がありますが、意欲的で、ある程度の英語レベル以上の人に適した、試す価値のある語学練習方法です。

今年の最初の例会は1月8日（木）午前10時30分～12時00分開催予定です。

At this English conversation dojo, members gather four times monthly (twice on Thursday mornings and twice on Saturday evenings) for in-person or online meetings to brush up the conversational skills they've built independently.

During these meetings, we exchange opinions on different themes each time without using Japanese, honing practical language skills.

This year, 2026, marks the 46th year of the Onomichi Free English Conversation Dojo. Over this time, English learning and conversation practice methods have evolved.

Recently, with AI advancements, tools like ChatGPT and Gemini (see attached photo) allow individuals to practice free, flexible English conversation anytime, anywhere, on any topic they choose—much like a private lesson.

While participants must manage their own practice schedules and times, this is a worthwhile language practice method for motivated individuals with a certain level of English proficiency.

This year's first meeting is to be held on Thursday, January 8th, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

ここで大国とは物理的に大きな土地を持っている国のことで、アメリカ、ロシア、中国などで、“偉大な国”という意味ではありません。

今年2025年も世界はこれらの国々の覇権主義、権威主義、他国無視主義に基づく、無責任で無節操な言動により、分断、戦争、貧困などが拡大しました。

これらの国々のリーダーたち、トランプ、プーチン、習近平に共通する悪癖、脅し、威圧、独善、無慈悲などを見つけることは難しくはありません。

世の中を良くする方法は彼らを反面教師にすればいいのです。

Here, “big powers” refers to countries possessing vast physical territories—such as the United States, Russia, and China—and does not imply “great nations.”

In 2025 as well, the world saw increased division, war, and poverty due to the irresponsible and unprincipled words and actions of these countries, rooted in their hegemony, authoritarianism, and disregard for other countries.

It is not difficult to identify the common vices shared by the leaders of these nations—Trump, Putin, Xi Jinping—such as threats, intimidation, self-righteousness, and ruthlessness.

The way to improve the world is to learn from their negative examples.

昨日、12月22日は冬至でした。

北半球では昼間の時間が最も短くなりますので、太陽光発電にとっては最も厳しい日です。

我家の「ひまわり発電所（小型（600W）・太陽光追尾・発電・蓄電（1600W）システム）では10時頃から16時までの約6時間しか発電できません。

これは、夏至の時期に比較すると時間的には約50%程度です。

ただ、この時期でも、快晴であれば、我家では「ひまわり発電所」から日中の家電（冷蔵庫、電灯、テレビ、パソコンなど、エアコンは除きます）への電力（100W – 250W）供給と1600ワットの満杯蓄電が可能です。これで、夜の10時までは蓄電池からの電力供給が可能です。

これからは、気温は低くても、太陽光受光時間が長くなりますので、太陽光発電にとっては楽しみな日々になります。

添付写真は昨日、午前10時過ぎ、南東に向いている600Wの太陽光パネルですが、屋根の影で一部が影になっています。4時頃までは自動で太陽の方向に向きを変えます。（自動太陽追尾式）

Yesterday, December 22nd, was the winter solstice.

In the Northern Hemisphere, daylight hours are at their shortest, making it the most challenging day for solar power generation.

My home's “Sunflower Power Station (SFPS)” (a small, solar-tracking system with 600W generation and 1600W storage) can only generate power for about 6 hours, from around 10 AM to 4 PM.

This is only about 50% of the time available during the summer solstice period.

However, even during this season, as long as it's perfectly sunny, our small “Sunflower Power Station (SFPS)” can supply daytime power (100W – 250W) to our household appliances (refrigerators, lights, TVs, computers, etc., not air conditioners) and fully charge the 1600W battery. This allows power supply from the storage battery until around 10 PM.

From now on, even though temperatures are lower, the hours of sunlight will increase, making these days exciting for solar power generation.

The attached photo shows a 600W solar panel facing southeast yesterday, shortly after 10 a.m., with part of it shaded by the roof. It automatically adjusts its orientation toward the sun until around 4 p.m. (Automatic sun-tracking system)

歌いながら、何と今の世相を表現した、タイムリーな内容、歌詞かと感心しています。

NHK Morning Drama “Bakebake”, Theme Song and Current State:

Last week, I had the chance to sing this song twice, which begins with lines like “Every day, nothing but troubles...” and “The world grows worse day by day.”

As I sang, I was struck by how timely the lyrics are, perfectly capturing the current state of society.

Even amidst hardship, a positive attitude is good.

With 2025 drawing to a close, reflection and effort are needed from everyone. Especially those called leaders.

気候変動防止参加、地球人として地球環境を考える：

持続可能な発電、継続的な節電もその方法の一つです。

国、人種、性別などに関係なく私たちは地球に生かされている地球人、地球市民です。

その地球が気象変動で瀕死の状態にあることは科学的なデータと頻繁に発生している自然災害でも明らかになっています。

しかし、為政者、政治家で、地球規模で地球の現況と将来を考えて行動できる人はほぼいません。

私たち一般の地球人が気候変動の防止に、地球人として積極的に参加する以外に有効な方法があるでしょうか。

However, there are almost no politicians or political leaders who can act with a global perspective on the current state and future of the Earth.

Is there any effective method other than for us, the general public, to actively participate in preventing climate change as citizens of the Earth?

NHK 【新プロジェクトX】肌着革命〜発熱で常識を変えろ〜 ブレスサーモ誕生秘話とN-38吸湿発熱繊維の挑戦｜2025年12月13日

暖かい冬インナー衣類の製造には欠かせない、水分を吸収して発熱する発熱繊維とその商品化のストーリーでした。

冬本番となり、暖かい衣類が欠かせない季節です。

多くの人はヒートテック製品としてユニクロなどの販売店がその生みの親と思っているでしょう。

しかし、その本当の生みの親、世界初の水分吸収発熱繊維を発明したのは、私も勤務していた東洋紡（株）の住谷さんです。

今回の番組を、同じ会社の研究所に勤務していた一人として大変誇らしく、過去も思い出しながら、見ました。

放送番組はコピーガードがかけられ、視聴できる期間も限られていますので、いくつかのポイントを写真と動画で、元東洋紡勤務者、開発研究者の目線で、応援の気持ちを込めて、ダイジェスト編集して保存しました。

音楽も著作権のために「地上の星」は使用できませんので、私自身の演奏曲「月光」を使用しました。その理由は開発者の住谷さんがインタビューの中で「光を見た」と言われていましたので。

NHK【New Project X】Underwear Revolution: Changing the Rules with Heat Generation—The Untold Story of BreathThermo and the Challenge of Moisture-Absorbing Heat-Generating Fiber N-38｜December 13, 2025

This was the story of the development and commercialization of heat-generating fibers that absorb moisture and generate heat—essential for manufacturing warm winter innerwear.

Winter is in full swing, making warm clothing indispensable.

Many people likely think retailers like UNIQLO are the creators of HEATTECH products.

However, the true creator, the inventor of the world's first moisture absorbing heat-generating fiber, was Mr. Sumitani from Toyobo Co., Ltd., where I also worked.

As someone who worked in the same company's research lab, I watched this program with immense pride, reminiscing about the past.

Since broadcast programs have copy protection and limited viewing periods, I preserved key points through photos and videos, edited into a digest the perspective of a former Toyobo employee and development researcher, with heartfelt support.

Due to copyright, I couldn't use “Star on Earth” for music, so I used my own performance of “Moonlight.” The reason is that Mr. Sumitani, the developer, mentioned in an interview that he “saw the light.”
