②Textile dyeing in black
The ideal color shade and depth is said to be the black of the crows’ wet feathers. The dyeing methods or dyes that can not produce a good black color shade and depth may be half-formed. We have now about 10 kinds of dyes chemically and the various dyeing methods depending on the dyes and the fibers.

In the tires, steel, nylon, polyester wires are physically laminated as the figure shows. I once tried synthesizing the rubber chemically bonded with the polymerized nylon (picture) when I was dispatched to a national university for 2 years from the company I had been working for. The physical mixture and the chemical bond are more different than might first be surmised.

In 1970's, many American children wearing pajamas made of man-made fibers got burned or died because of the fire accidents. To prevent the recurrence, I thought of applying the fire spread prevention idea to this case. I had heard that in the forest fire, they cut down the trees ahead of the fire to stop it. Of course, my chemistry-based idea is not as visible as the real fires because it is a story in the molecular and atom world, but the image is the same. Some polymer chains can be broken by heat radicals (active radicals) generated by fire on the cloths, which leads to stopping the fire spread. If we use this kind of polymers for textile processing, the cloths can be fireproofed. This idea of mine had been proved correct and applied to the industrial textile printing.

Different from the man-made fibers, many creases of the cotton shirts after being washed is a big problem and need ironing every time. The wash-and-wear shirts have been developed to solve this problem. Chemically they have solved the problem to make chemical bridges using the resin among the cellulose polymers bearing a hydroxyl group. Historically this technology has been developed since about 40 years ago and I was also involved in this when I was working as a researcher for a certain company.
⑥Conversion of Inorganic fibers into organic ones and its dyeing with organic dyes
The glass fibers are inorganic and they can’t be colored by the organic dyes. (They are the same as water and oil. They are at odds.)
But if all of the very fine glass fibers can be coated with the organic polymer resin, they can be dyed with organic dyes. The seemingly impossible themes are worth trying as research objecｔs.
There should be many “funs” in the chemical researches such as how to coat the finer fibers than hairs effectively, finding what polymers are suitable and so on.
⑦Synthesizing high water-absorbing polymer
Around 1970, I made a trace experiment to synthesize the high water-absorbing polymer soon after I encountered the reference article in the magazine from England. This synthesized polymer could absorb about 25 times as much water as its own weight, I remember.
I reported this result at the intra laboratory meeting, but none of the other researchers showed their interest in this polymer and it was put on the shelves.
Looking at the great popularization of the disposable diapers today, I regrettably recall it.
