インターネットテレビ電話、スカイプのサービス終了 Internet videophone, Skype service ends

今では多くのインターネットテレビ電話アプリがあります。

この分野でのパイオニアはスカイプです。

その大まかな歴史と私の利活用の経過は以下の通りです。

1.  2003年にSkypeはスウェーデンとデンマークの起業家によって創設され、当初はインターネット回線を使った音声通話（VoIP）アプリケーションとして登場しました。

2.  2004年にインターネット経由の無料通話サービスとして注目を集めました。

3.  2008年頃、このスカイプという無料通話サービスのことをNTTに勤務していた友人から聞き、利用を開始しました。フィリピンからアメリカに移住した無線仲間でしばらく音信の途絶えていた友人にこのことを伝えて、インターネットでの再会を果たしました。

4.  2011年にMicrosoftがSkypeを買収しました。

5.  2011年4月15日に私はスカイプを使った「Round table meeting in English英語井戸端会議」と題した案内を作りました。

6.  2013年に尾道無料英会話道場はスカイプを使って、海外の友人を数名加えた活動として再開し、現在に至っています。

この長年親しんできたスカイプがそのサービスを5月に終了しますので、私たちの尾道無料英会話道場の例会には今後はLINEを利用します。

There are now many Internet videophone applications.

The pioneer in this field is Skype.

Its rough history and the course of my use is as follows.

1. in 2003, Skype was founded by Swedish and Danish entrepreneurs and initially appeared as a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) application.

2. in 2004, it gained attention as a free calling service over the internet.

3. around 2008, I heard about this free calling service called Skype from a friend who worked for NTT and started using it. I told this to an amateur radio friend of mine who had emigrated from the Philippines to the US and had lost touch with him for a while, and we were able to reconnect over the internet.

4. in 2011, Microsoft acquired Skype.

5. on 15 April 2011, I created a guide named "Round Table Meeting in English" using Skype.

6. in 2013, Onomichi Free English Conversation Dojo resumed as a Skype-based activity with the addition of some overseas friends, and has continued to this day.

This long-established Skype service will be discontinued in May, so from now on we will be using LINE for our Onomichi Free English Conversation Dojo meetings.

We will also be using Teams for the Eiken Level 1 (& equivalent) Qualified Persons Network meetings in Japan.
