司法通訳 Judicial interpreter

Last minute cancellation for judicial interpreter’ work:

I am one of the judicial interpreters registered with the Hiroshima Bar Association in the field of English language. (See the following website.)

The other day, I was asked to work as an interpreter for the lawyer in charge of a certain foreign national who had caused injury case, but at the last minute the work was cancelled due to the suspect's circumstances.

Preparation for the job depends on the nature of the case, but in the case of an injury case, as an interpreter, we need to organize and memorize the legal flow of the procedure and the legal vocabulary for making a statement in advance.

Canceling at the last minute is never a good idea, as it can cause problems for all parties involved.

With so many people from abroad, speaking many different languages, coexisting throughout the country, problems arise and can be complicated to handle. I hope that the language barrier will not be to the detriment of all concerned.

This is the last of five consecutive days of posting English-related content starting this Monday (24th).
