木材の寸法安定化技術、化学はロマン(2) Dimensionally-stabilized wood products, a dreamful chemistry (2)

日本国内の林業の再生と森林資源活用に必要な技術の一つが木材製品の寸法安定性向上加工技術です。その加工技術確立には木綿など天然繊維の加工技術の知見や技術が木材にも有効であるはずである、ということで、昨日10月29日にある会社の社長さんから技術的な相談を再度受けました。その理由は木綿も木材も同じ繊維素高分子からできているからです。私の知識は古いかもしれませんが化学理論や原理は不変ですから技術開発成功のお役に立てるように頑張ります。
One of the technologies needed to revitalize the timber industry and to use more forest resources in Japan is the wood dimension stabilizing technology. Yesterday on October 29th, I was again asked for the technical advice on that by a wood processing company president because the same kind of technology for natural cellulose fibers like cotton, which I know, should be effectively applied to timbers as well. The reason for that is both cotton and woods are made of cellulose fiber polymers. My knowledge about that may be old, but the chemical principles and theories never change and I would like to do my best to make their technology development successful.
