広島県高校生の英語力、全国７番目の低さ Hiroshima Prefecture High School Students’ English Proficiency Ranks 7th Lowest Nationwide

昨日7月14日のNHKテレビニュースによれば、私の住んでいる広島県内の高校３年生で英検準2級以上の水準に達している生徒の割合は50％に満たず、中国地方5県で最も低い結果となりました。この割合は全国（47都道府県）でも7番目に低い水準で、中高生の英語力が全国的に向上している中で課題が残る結果となっています。この内容は添付記事と動画（1分30秒）を参照ください。

秋に英語学習の本「イヤでも身につく使える英語力」（＊）を出版する著者の私は、この残念な結果には教育委員会、教師、生徒のすべてに反省点、改善点がある、と考えています。

According to an NHK television news report yesterday, July 14, the percentage of third-year high school students in Hiroshima Prefecture, where I have been living, who have reached the Eiken Pre-2 Level or higher was less than 50 percent, the lowest result among the five prefectures in the Chugoku region. This percentage is also the seventh lowest nationwide (across all 47 prefectures), highlighting a lingering challenge at a time when the English proficiency of junior high and high school students is improving nationwide. As the author of the English learning book *Practical English Skills You’ll Master Whether You Like It or Not*, to be published this fall, I believe that this disappointing result indicates areas for reflection and improvement on the part of the Board of Education, teachers, and students alike.
