ALT（英語補助教員）制度の改善のために Toward Improving the ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) Program in Japan

LinkedInで公開したALTに関するこれまでの3つの投稿に対し、皆様から圧倒的な反響をいただき、心より感謝します（数日間で一万以上、添付写真参照）。

今回は、この制度の効果を上げるために、いくつかの改善点を挙げてみます。

１．呼称は英語補助教員ではなく、英語教員又は英語共同教員にする。

２．すべての海外からの英語教員は母国での教員免許を有していること。

３．すべての海外からの英語教員はバイリンガルで、外国語習得経験を持っていること。

４．海外からの英語教員の人数はそれぞれの出身国から等しくする。

５．日本での教育結果を評価しその効果を明らかにする。

６．海外からの英語教員も日本人教員と同じ待遇にする。

逆に、日本人が海外で日本語を教える場合も同様とする。

Toward Improving the ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) Program in Japan:

This is the final post in this four-part series.

I’d like to thank everyone for the overwhelming response to my previous three posts about ALT on LinkedIn (over 14,000 reactions in just a few days—see the attached photo).

To enhance the effectiveness of this system, I would like to propose the following improvements.

1. The title should be changed from “Assistant Language Teacher” to “English Teacher” or “Co-Teacher of English.”

2. All English teachers from overseas must hold a teaching license from their home country.

3. All English teachers from overseas must be bilingual and have experience learning a foreign language.

4. Ensure an equal number of English teachers from each country of origin.

5. Evaluate the educational outcomes in Japan to clarify the program’s effectiveness.

6. Provide English teachers from overseas with the same treatment as Japanese teachers.

Conversely, the same should apply when Japanese nationals teach Japanese overseas.
