Scrap and Build

Scrap and Build:

A local coffee shop that had been in business for about 60 years along National Route 184 has closed, and demolition of the building has begun.

The founder passed away, and the successor likely decided that continuing the business would be too difficult and that selling it was the better option.

In the past, the three key elements of starting a business were people, goods, and capital. Today, however, factors such as competition with large chains, information, and AI have been added to the mix.

Furthermore, the Government’s policies to weaken the yen since the Abe administration, as well as rising prices and soaring material costs under the current administration—which has failed to offer any effective solutions to the ongoing Middle East crisis—are major factors making it difficult to start a business.

However, starting a business has always been fraught with challenges. Only those who can overcome these obstacles without relying on subsidies can successfully launch and sustain a business.
