Current Status and Trends in Selling Self-Generated Electricity (1) The More You Sell, the More You Lose:
The FIT (Feed-in Tariff) rate has decreased annually since its inception in fiscal year 2012 (42 yen/kWh), and currently (April-September 2025) stands at 15 yen/kWh, meaning the electricity selling price is now approximately one-third of its original level.
It's almost like government fraud.
When self-generated power, such as solar power, exceeds consumption, selling the surplus electricity to the utility company requires a connection contract with them. This necessitates installing equipment, completing procedures, and incurring associated costs.
Simply put, selling electricity results in a loss of over 15 yen per kWh (purchase price approx.: 31 yen/kWh > selling price: 15 yen/kWh, FIT certified). Furthermore, this low selling price will decrease even more after the FIT period ends, falling to 8.5 to 12 yen/kWh, meaning the loss amount will likely become even larger.
The solution is 100% self-consumption through small-scale, high-efficiency on-site power generation.
