Reasons of Young People Changing Jobs and Quitting

I heard a broadcast on NHK's morning radio program discussing this topic.

In Japan, the number of companies going bankrupt due to labor shortages has been rapidly increasing every year since the Corona Pandemic.

Meanwhile, over 40% of young people in their 20s quit, leave, or change jobs soon after the New Year holidays—a phenomenon called “New Year's Resignations.”

The primary reason cited is dissatisfaction with working conditions, such as transfers and overtime working.

However, they still desire to work for another company, meaning they want to remain employed within an organization. They seek the security provided by an organization's umbrella, revealing a structure of dependency.

As long as one belongs to an organization like a company, one's hopes, principles, and ideas will never be 100% fulfilled.

Considering these circumstances, their path forward should be to start their own business and pursue their own way to fulfill their hopes, principles, and ideas. However, the reality is that they lack both the preparation and the capability for this.

It boils down to a choice: endure, or muster the courage to learn early on what it means to earn your own salary without belonging to an organization.

Incidentally, during my corporate days in my twenties, I disliked overtime working and being transferred. So, aiming to leave the corporate world before turning thirty, I devoted considerable time (more than 5 years) and energy to preparing and building my capabilities for my next stage.
