寒波襲来と自作薪ストーブ Cold Wave Strikes and My Homemade Wood Stove

大雪をもたらしているJPCZ（Japan sea Polar air mass Convergence Zone、日本海寒帯気団収束帯、雪雲が列状に並ぶ現象）で日本海側の積雪は大変な様子です。

インディアナ州の友人のところでも同じような状況のようで、ミシガン州に住んでいるこの友人の妹さんは11月から暖かいカリフォルニア州に移動し、3月頃まで滞在するとのことです。（羨ましい。）

先日12日、尾道でも雪が降り、今年もDIYで作った簡易薪ストーブに火を入れました。小さな小屋での使用ですから、すぐに暖かくなります。燃料の木材は周囲からいくらでも入手できますし、清掃にもなり一石二鳥です。

更に、一昨日24日にはある（日本語）本の（英語）翻訳作業が一段落した後、ストーブに火を入れ、NHKのFMで「ディスカバリー・リユニオン、カーペンターズ編」を聴きながら、炎を見つめながら、1時間ほど至福の時間をゆっくり過ごしました。

現在、この2倍のサイズの簡易ストーブを日曜大工で製作するために、ペール缶2個をもらい受けて作業中です。来年からの使用を予定しています。

The JPCZ (Japan Sea Polar air mass Convergence Zone, a phenomenon where snow clouds line up in a row bringing heavy snow) has caused significant snow accumulation on the Japan Sea side.

A friend in Indiana seems to be experiencing similar conditions. His sister, who lives in Michigan, has moved to warm California in November and plans to stay until around March.(I envy her.)

Snow fell in Onomichi the other day on 12th too, so I lit my DIY-built simple wood stove again this year. Since it's used in a small shed, it warms up quickly. Fuel wood is readily available from the surrounding area, and it helps with cleaning up—killing two birds with one stone.

Furthermore, the day before yesterday on the 24th, after wrapping up the English translation of a Japanese book, I lit the stove and spent about an hour in blissful relaxation, gazing at the flames while listening to “Discovery Reunion: The Carpenters Edition” on NHK FM.

Currently, I'm working on making a simple stove twice this size as a DIY project, using two metal drums I acquired. I plan to use it from next year on.
