冬のセミ　　Winter Cicada

写真の蝉は年末掃除をしている時に見つけた「冬蝉」です。

セミの抜け殻を秋項に見つけることはよくありますが、このような完全な姿で見つけたのは私には初めてです。

ネット情報では以下のように説明されています。

冬にセミの死骸を見つけるのは珍しいですが、それは昆虫寄生菌（冬虫夏草など）に寄生されて、菌が本体と幹の間に菌糸を伸ばして固定したため、原型を留めて残っていた可能性が高いです。通常、夏に死んだセミは分解されて原型をとどめていませんが、この菌の影響で死んだ場所に「冬蝉」として固定され、秋遅くまで残ることがあるのです。 

The cicada in the photo is a “winter cicada” I found while doing year-end cleaning.

It's common to find cicada exoskeletons in autumn, but this is the first time I've ever found one in such a complete state.

Online sources explain it as follows:

Finding dead cicadas in winter is rare, but it's highly likely they were parasitized by insect-infecting fungi (like Cordyceps) that extended mycelium between the body and the branch to secure it, preserving its original form. Normally, cicadas that die in summer decompose and lose their shape, but due to this fungus, they can be fixed in place where they died as “winter cicadas” and remain until late autumn.
