Onomichi Railway (1918 – 1964):
Since 1918 (Taisho 7) this railway line once connected Onomichi City in Hiroshima Prefecture with Mitsugi Town in Mitsugi District (now the northern part of Onomichi City).

However, due to increasing motorization and declining ridership, the section between Ishiguro and Ichi was discontinued in 1957 (Showa 32). The remaining section between Onomichi and Ishiguro was also discontinued in 1964 (Showa 39).
I used this railway to commute every day from Sanbien Station to Onomichi Station when I was a high school student, which was from 1962 until 1964, the 2nd semester of my third year of high school. Kurihara Station, pictured here, was located along that route.
(From Onomichi Station, I took the national railway (now JR) to Fukuyama.)
Kurihara Station was one of the stations where single-track trains could pass each other, located near the current Shinkansen/Shin-Onomichi Station.
The second photo shows a train running through Minari where I have been living now. It appears in the screen introduction of the re-released version of my TV shows (Onomichi CATV).

I have collected and preserved many photographs of the Onomichi Railway, so please contact me if you would like to see them.
