“足る”幸せと“足りない”で得られる教訓、電気利用の場合 Happiness with 'sufficiency' and the lessons learned from 'insufficiency' in electricity use

物やサービスが十分に提供されれば、心配がなくなり安心して生活できる幸せがあるでしょう。

一方、それらが不十分であれば、不安で生活は苦しいでしょう。

しかし、後者の場合、不十分さによって物やサービスを大切にする考えや習慣が身につき、ゼロにしないように注意しながら使用し、活用しますので、その価値が大変貴重であることを十分認識できます。

前者が後者の状況を理解できる国や人々はあり、いますが、決して多くはありません。

その例の一つが電気です。

私たちの多くが毎日、電気を当たり前のように使っていますが、世界には電気が使えない地域がたくさんあります。彼らには一日1キロワットの電気でも貴重で、大変ありがたいのです。

このことを私は自分自身で持続的エネルギーである太陽光発電を小型で“足りない”量を発電すること、そしてわずかな量でも節電すれば大きな電気量になる技術を開発したことで再認識しました。

そして、これらの技術を電気で困っている人々に届けられればいいな、と思っています。

When goods and services are provided in sufficient quantities, people are able to live worry-free and secure lives, which makes them happy.

Conversely, when they are insufficient, life becomes difficult and anxiety-inducing.

However, the latter fosters habits and mindsets that value goods and services. We use them carefully, being mindful not to let them run out and fully recognizing their immense value.

There are countries and people who can understand the latter's situation, but they are by no means numerous.

One example is electricity.

While many of us use it daily without a second thought, there are numerous regions worldwide without access to it. For these people, even one kilowatt-hour of electricity per day is precious and deeply appreciated.

Through my own work developing small-scale solar power generation — a sustainable energy source — I have come to realize this anew. I have created technology that allows minimal power savings to add up to significant electricity savings.

I hope these technologies can help people who struggle to access electricity.
