シジュウカラのコミュニケーションと子育ての様子　Titmice Communication and their parenting

野鳥のシジュウカラはジェスチャーで特定の意味を伝える。そして、鳴き声の言葉も持っています。

どちらも動物言語学者の鈴木俊貴・東京大学准教授（40）が世界で初めて発見した。

3月から毎日のように目の前の巣箱で巣作り、産卵、子育てをしているシジュウカラのペアを見ていると、種類の異なる鳴き声を確認できます。そしてペアが同時にいる時に一方が両方の翼を小刻みに震わせるしぐさをすると、この意味は「お先にどうぞ」ということであることも確認しました。

観察中のシジュカラのペアは今年、シーズン2回目の子育てをしています。巣箱内部に防犯カメラを一時的に移動して迷惑をかけないように、大変、興味深い行動をたくさん観察できます。

Both were discovered for the first time in the world by animal linguist Toshitaka Suzuki, 40, an associate professor at the University of Tokyo.

Every day since March, I have been watching a pair of titmice nesting, laying eggs and raising their young in a nest box in front of me, and I can identify different types of calls. We have also confirmed that when the pair are together at the same time and one of them makes a gesture by flapping both wings in a small motion, it means "after you".

This year, the pair of titmice under our observation are raising their second brood of the season.  By temporarily moving our security camera inside the nest box, we can observe a lot of very interesting behaviors without disturbing them.

The video below shows the mother titmouse warming her eggs got food from her partner shortly after 10am this morning.
