フォルクスワーゲンと中国　Volkswagen and China

フォルクスワーゲンのごまかしソフトによる排ガス規制違反が会社組織ぐるみであったことが明らかになりつつあります。
フォルクスワーゲンと言えば、1990年台にはサンタナという車種で中国市場を独占していました。
私は同年代に中国で絹染色仕上げ加工の技術指導を2度行いましたが、町の車と言えば同じスタイル（良いとは言えなかった）のサンタナばかりで飽き飽きした記憶があります。
フォルクスワーゲンによるごまかし姿勢と中国のルール無視の姿勢がほどよくマッチして当時の異様な寡占状態が作られていたのかと思うと、納得できます。

In 1990s, the Chinese car market was monopolized by Volkswagen’s Santana, when I visited China twice to give the technical guidance in the silk dyeing and finishing industry, and I remember getting tired of the same Santana models (not good in its design) almost everywhere.
Now I can understand the reason why Volkswagen enjoyed its oligopoly in China with Santana models. It is because the cheating nature of Volkswagen went along well with the China’s rule neglecting attitude.
