夏です！麦わら帽子の出番です！　Summer is here! Time to break out the straw hats!

この一週間、私たちの地域の尾道では時々雨が降り、猛暑は一休みですが、全体的には猛暑の続く日本、夏は麦わら帽子がよく似合います。

麦わら帽子を100年以上（明治30年、1897年創業）製造している石田製帽（株）（岡山県笠岡市、https://www.ishidaseibou.com/）が先日、7月12日昼食時の12時15分からの番組「探検ファクトリー」で25分間、NHKで全国放送されました。

この会社、実は、私が26年前の1999年に尾道ケーブルテレビで私のテレビ番組として取材放送し、3年前の2022年にもユーチューブで復活放送した会社です。

中国からの安価な輸入品やリーマンショックなどのいくつかの苦境はあったものの、今でも4人の兄弟姉妹が伝統の麦わら帽子づくりを受け継ぎ、手仕事による高い品質とデザイン力、実用性とファッション性を武器に新境地を切り開いていいます。

100年以上の長い間、いくつかの荒波を乗り越えた中小企業として大変ご立派です。

Although it has rained occasionally in our area of Onomichi this week, providing some relief from the intense heat, Japan continues to experience a heatwave overall and straw hats are the perfect summer accessory.

Ishida Seibo, a company that has been manufacturing straw hats for over 100 years (founded in 1897, https://www.ishidaseibou.com/), was featured on the NHK program “Exploration Factory” at 12:15 p.m. for 25 minutes the other day on July 12.

This company was also featured in my TV program on Onomichi Cable TV 26 years ago in 1999, and was rebroadcast on YouTube three years ago in 2022, which can be viewed on the following site.

Despite challenges such as cheap imports from China and the global financial crisis, the four siblings continue to carry on the traditional craft of straw hat making. They leverage their high-quality craftsmanship, design expertise, and blend of practicality and fashion to forge new paths. 

As a small-to-medium-sized enterprise that has weathered numerous storms in more than 100 years, they are truly commendable.
